Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson was born on May 13, 1986, in London, England. As a child, the Hollywood heartthrob was quite the troublemaker, getting expelled from school at the age of 12, stating once in an interview that he was "quite bad." At the age of 15, he discovered his talent for acting after joining the Barnes Theatre Company in London, where he landed roles in amateur plays.

A passion for theater is not what led Robert to take up acting as a hobby. R Pattz, as his fans call him, explained in an interview, "I started doing plays when I was about 15 or 16. I only did it because my dad saw a bunch of pretty girls in a restaurant and he asked them where they came from and they said drama group. He said ‘Son, that is where you need to go.’"

From that point on, Robert focused most of his energy into his new found passion, taking on a few small movie roles. But it wasn't until he met Mike Newell, the director of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2003 that he really caught his big break. A week after their introduction, Robert was offered the role of Cedric Diggory, which he reprised in the next installment of Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.Robert basked for a bit in the glow of the fame that came from his role in the two Harry Potter films, explaining his initial reaction in an interview:

"Someone asked for my autograph the other day which is quite cool. But, I don’t know. I hope [Pottermania] doesn’t make me not come out of my house, because I barely come out of my house as it is!" Little did he know he was about to land the role of Edward Cullen in the highly anticipated flick, Twilight, a role that has launched him from small-scale celeb to full-blown Hollywood A-lister before the film has even hit theaters!

Robert, who now has a massive female (and male) following, has no where to go but up. His other upcoming film, Little Ashes, in which he'll be playing artist Salvador Dali, is scheduled to be released in the UK in 2009. It has already been receiving rave reviews from those who have been lucky enough to take in a screening.

Now Robert is just living his life, trying to stay true to the person he was before being slapped with the label of Holllywood ultra-hottie. Always the music enthusiast and skilled pianist/guitarist, Robert is continuing to perform his music, and has even contributed an original track to Twilight's musical score.

Fans can breathe a sigh of relief, for it doesn't seem like Robert will be going anywhere anytime soon. Anyone who is capable of reaching this level of stardom before his biggest performance to date is even seen by the public eye has got THAT star quality everyone dreams about. Now you'll just have to wait and see where he goes from here!

quotes

"It's strange, somebody asked for my autograph the other day. Because I finished school and I'm not really doing anything at the moment, I was just kind of aimlessly wandering around London and these two guys who were about 30 came up and asked for my autograph. I was really quite proud at the time, and they wanted to take photos and stuff. And then they were sort of wandering around and I was kind of wandering around and I bumped into them about three times, and every single time their respect for me kept growing and growing and growing."

"They [Barnes Theatre Club] were a very good group, and for some reason when I finished the backstage thing, I just decided to that I should try to act. So I auditioned for Guys and Dolls and got a little tiny part as some Cuban dancer or something and then in the next play I got the lead part, and then I got my agent. So I owe everything to that little club."

"I aspire to be Jack Nicholson. I love his every single mannerism. I used to try and be him in virtually everything I did, I don't know why. I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) when I was about 13, and I dressed like him. I tried to do his accent. I did everything like him. I think it kind of stuck with me."

"The day before [the Harry Potter London premiere] I was just sitting in Leicester Square, happily being ignored by everyone. Then suddenly strangers are screaming your name. Amazing."

"I went to one of these signing conventions. [in '06] It was one of the most interesting experiences I've had. It was so strange that people would pay for autographs. You keep thinking you should do a little dance for them as well or something."

"I have been playing the piano for my entire life - since I was three or four. And the guitar - I used to play classical guitar from when I was about five to 12 years of age. Then I didn't play guitar for like years. About four or five years ago, I got out the guitar again and just started playing blues and stuff. I am not very good at the guitar, but I am all right. I am in a band in London as well."

modelling

Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson was forced to end his modeling career at the age of 16 - because he started to look too manly.

The British actor was a child model from the age of 12 but had to give up his life in front of the camera when work dried up just four years later. And Pattinson, who subsequently turned to acting, blames growing into a man for his modeling rejections.

He tells British magazine Closer, "When I first started I was quite tall and looked like a girl, so I got lots of jobs, because it was during that period where the androgynous look was cool. Then, I guess, I became too much of a guy, so I never got any more jobs. I had the most unsuccessful modeling career."
